Demo access question
Hi,
Access to our demo requires a specific email address & unique access code. For the purposes of this contest, would we be able to have the email addresses of whomever is planning to test our app so we can create their unique access codes? I'm assuming it would be the judges who would be testing and I'm requesting this only for the purpose of setting up the access codes for them. If not, I have an alternate idea that could possible work however having it set up properly would be best.
Thank you for your help!

The best approach might be similar to what Apple does (you aren't going to get email addresses of their app evaluation team members).
Set up a username and password using your own email (demo@yourdomain.com as username) and set up demo data ahead of time for them to play with if needed. Then simply post the username and password here in the submission form. All judges will use the same account.
Now, if you're like me, I've built apps that best show with personalized data and accounts. That is going to be very difficult in these circumstances, and even a demo account with thoughtfully planned canned data does go a long way. Help me understand your situation if you feel this wont work for you for some reason.

No problem, figured that wasn't possible but wanted to understand the best approach as I interpreted the rules to mean that each judge would want to personally test the site themselves (not just play in a pre-staged demo).
The way our submission works is that there is a 1-time question widget walkthrough that will pre-populate with information. To start that process the user has a choice, to either start building w/FB to kickstart the initial process and put you right into the key parts of the question widget. Or you can also complete the entire process manually which would require anwering some additional questions before getting to the key parts of the question widget.
To clarify & make sure I'm understanding your response, we can set up a demo account & have it pre-filled with information however the judges will still want to access and test with their own info as well?
So I guess my question is what is the most important judging criteria for the demo experience?
Is it:
1) See the final product post-onboarding (which still allows them to play with the product & make additions/ edits but would not take them through the initial onboarding). That way they can step into a pre-populated product and go from there.
2) Experience the entire product from the first initial onboarding step?
Also, would more than one judge be wanting to demo the product? If so, how many demo accounts should I provide them (this would be necessary if they want to test it individually and experience the full onboarding experience). I would need to make sure I'm creating enough demo emails with access codes for them.
Thanks for your help!

There will be at least 5 judges.
From the sounds of it, I would go with #1. If I were a judge, I'm probably going to want to know what long term awesome thing your solution does for me. If the most compelling thing is on-boarding, then I could be wrong about my recommendation, so don't let me steer you wrong. :)
Also, I haven't looked at your entry yet, but if the on-boarding stuff is covered in a video or written detail, and it's main importance is for context in helping the user/judge know generally how things work from the start, you'll be good to go I think.

Hi dapug,
Would you be able to take a look at my application and let me know if it makes sense with the onboarding or if it needs more to explain it? I have gone ahead and created individual emails/invitations for each judge so they can try it themselves from the beginning. Just in case, I also gave an option to just view a pre-populated example that does not include the onboarding. Thanks for your help!

It looks like your on-boarding is important for judges to grasp. That said, if it were possible to offer them a 1-2 minute end to end walk through to convey the concepts without them actually having to step through it, that might be helpful.
I would add detail, description, suggestions on what to do in the app once the questions are answered and you are browsing around. I might have missed that, I didn't have a lot of time to look.
Hope this helps. We're down to the wire now. :)
